England are through to Tuesday’s UEFA Women’s Euros semi-final after a dramatic victory over Sweden via a penalty shootout. The holders have not looked at their best at various times in this tournament, but they are now just two games away from defending their title.

Standing in their way will be Italy, who are without a doubt the surprise of the tournament thus far after beating Norway in their quarter-final. It is the first time Italy have reached the final four since 1997, where they beat Spain but lost in the final to Germany.

It’s going to be a fierce clash and just as with Sweden, England will pay the price if they underestimate their opponents. Yes, they are more talented and have the experience, but that can all go out the window if they don’t take Italy seriously. Let’s start, as we always do, with the England bets. As we’ve talked about during the tournament England are a bit of a difficult side to bet on. They don’t have consistency in terms of a regular goalscorer, or assist provider. Obviously that is excellent for tournament football but when it comes to picks that can make things trickier.

One area that has been consistent, is Lucy Bronze and fouls. The Chelsea right-back scored the crucial goal that got England back into the game against Sweden but it is her fouls that have stood out so far. Bronze has made six fouls at Euro 2025, only two players left in the tournament (German duo Elisa Senss and Jule Brand) have made more fouls than Bronze. We’re backing Bronze to get at least one more in this game.

Alessia Russo to score or assist

Our other bet for England is for an anytime goal or assist and we’re going with Russo. The Arsenal forward didn’t get much support against Sweden but she remains the key cog when England are attacking. It’s also worth noting that with the performances of Chloe Kelly off the bench there’s a chance that she comes into the team from the off. That means that picking bets on Lauren James, Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp becomes more complicated, whereas Russo is guaranteed to start. Kelly is tempting here but we’re sticking with Russo.

Cristiana Girelli to score anytime

On the Italian side, our bets are pretty straight-forward here to be honest.

One player has scored four goals at this Euros (Spain’s Esther Gonzalez) and only three have scored three goals. One of those three is Cristiana Girelli, Italy’s captain and their reference point.

Girelli only scored once in the group stage but notched a brace against Norway in the quarter-finals, including the dramatic late winner. Girelli will fancy her chances against England’s hap-hazard backline, particularly with doubts over the fitness of captain Leah Williamson. We’re backing her to score anytime.

Arianna Caruso to be fouled 2+ times

The second bet is for Arianna Caruso to be fouled two or more times during the game. Only two players in the entire tournament have drawn more fouls than Caruso, who has proven herself to be a handful for opponents in every game she plays, drawing ten fouls thus far. It’s also worth pointing out that England have committed the fourth-most fouls of any team in this tournament.
