Report: European Giants Interested In Player Set To Declare For Ireland

When it comes to Irish players that have featured for the true giants on the continent, it is a rather exclusive list.

Players from this part of the world featuring for the most successful clubs in England is something that we have seen quite regularly, even if it has become increasingly rare in recent times.

It is a different matter for the big European clubs. The likes of Liam Brady (Juventus & Inter) and Robbie Keane (Inter) are the two most high profile examples of footballers that bucked that trend.

However, another player could be added to that list if some recent reports are to be believed.

Owen Elding is a player that is becoming increasingly familiar to Irish football fans, impressing with his recent exploits at Sligo Rovers.

The 19-year old is one of the most exciting players in the League of Ireland, with his international future also brought into the spotlight in recent days.

Elding was born in England, going on to move to Ireland as a child after his father joined Sligo Rovers. It was revealed in recent days that the player was now in the process of declaring for Ireland at international level.

It appears that an international switch may not be the only move in his future.

The Irish Examiner are reporting that Juventus are interested in signing Owen Elding, having developed an admiration for the player in recent months.

The winger is contracted at Sligo Rovers until 2027, meaning that they could command a significant fee from any interested clubs over the coming months.

It remains to be seen if anything will come of Juventus' interest in the player, although the fact that he has caught their eye sums up the level of talent at his disposal.
