Liverpool chiefs are set to fly to Boston this week to gain approval for a €150m (£126m) move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz from owners Fenway Sports Group, Bild journalist Christian Falk has revealed.

The Premier League champions are aiming to step up their pursuit of Wirtz in the coming days as they look to beat summer competition from Bayern Munich in the race for the 21-year-old’s signature.

The meeting between Liverpool directors and the club’s ownership in the United States was reportedly scheduled at short notice after Wirtz’s family visited England last week.

The Merseysiders have followed Wirtz’s development for years and now see an opportunity to strike a deal early amid growing interest from European rivals.

Leverkusen are demanding €150m for the 21-year-old

According to Falk, Liverpool are now ‘serious’ about Wirtz and will seek approval from owners FSG for a €150m move for the Germany international.

Liverpool’s CEO of football, Michael Edwards, will reportedly explain why Wirtz is ‘so special’ and why a hefty transfer fee would be justified.

A £126m deal for Wirtz would set a new British transfer record this summer, eclipsing the £106.8m Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

The ‘world-class’ attacking midfielder could soon follow his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield, as the Dutch wing-back is now set to become Arne Slot’s first summer signing.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Wirtz has scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances for Leverkusen this season.

Wirtz has developed into one of the best attacking midfielders in the world during his five seasons with Leverkusen’s first team.

He led Bayer to their first-ever German title last year and was named Bundesliga Player of the Season.
