Sweden boss John Dahl Tomasson says he has no plans to "do stupid things" with Alexander Isak as the new Liverpool striker gets set for his first minutes since May this week.

And Tomasson says he has been in touch with Arne Slot following the completion of Isak's £125m transfer deadline day switch from Newcastle United to thrash out an agreement over the forward.

Isak brought an end to a summer-long saga on Monday night when he completed a Merseyside medical and become the most expensive player in British football history.

After finalising his dream move to Anfield, the 25-year-old immediately flew out to join up with his international colleagues and after training on Tuesday, he could now be involved on Friday when Tomasson's men play Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier.

"I saw him smiling, have you seen his face? He is so happy to be here, he is so happy to play, so I think that tells you a lot," Tomasson said. "He really likes being in a group.

"Of course his form is what I said the other day, normally in pre-season you play plenty of games, plenty of training but that is not the case. So is he able to play 90 minutes? Of course not.

"Are we going to do stupid things with Alex? No, we are not going to do stupid things with Alex. So we, of course, have a plan but he is smiling and he is happy to be here.

"No instruction [from Liverpool], we always have good connections with a lot of clubs, I have spoken to the manager. Our doctor has spoken to their doctor. Our physio Ben (Rosen) has spoken to their physio and the physical department at Liverpool. And normal communication we have with each club, it is quite honest."

Isak could make his debut for the Reds when they travel to Burnley on the other side of the international break, while a first Premier League run-out at Anfield is likely to arrive in the Merseyside derby with Everton on September 20.
