Alexander Isak and Federico Chiesa were just two stars spotted in Liverpool training ahead of Burnley this weekend

Liverpool don't have long to wait until they're back in Premier League action. This Sunday they have a trip to play Burnley at Turf Moor, and training was restarted on Wednesday with fans given an inside look.

Liverpool currently lead the Premier League but over the coming weeks will find themselves challenged by the beginning of simultaneous Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns. Arne Slot's men face seven games in 21 days, with Atletico Madrid, Everton, and Southampton to follow on from this weekend.

Maintaining a healthy squad is going to be crucial, as is the integration of British-record signing Alexander Isak, who arrives in need of building up his match fitness.

It was the striker's first time in training since joining from Newcastle United, and here's what the ECHO noticed from the session.

Welcome to Liverpool, Alexander Isak!

It seems Isak is going the extra mile for his new club - he was the only player involved in September internationals to report for training on Wednesday.

And for a player who before Monday had not kicked a ball under match conditions in over three months, he was looking pretty sharp.

Albeit against some youthful defenders, the £125m signing applied the finishing touch or found the correct pass in multiple build-up play simulations at the AXA Training Centre. The most notable, perhaps, was when he cut inside - unbalancing 19-year-old Wellity Lucky with his dart of pace - and calmly tucked into the near bottom corner.

The fact Isak is no stranger to the demands of English football should be of help to the Reds as he regains 100 per cent match fitness over the coming weeks.

Aside from that, the Swedish star looks to be settling in and to have found a friend already in Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong injury boost

Sticking with the Dutchman, nothing is confirmed yet but the footage from training appears to be good news ahead of the trip to Burnley.

Frimpong had missed the wins over Newcastle and Arsenal before the international break with a hamstring injury but as anticipated, looks like he's nearing a return. The full-back was fully involved in team training both indoors and outside on Wednesday.

Slot is set to provide answers when he sits down with the press before the trip to Turf Moor.

Federico Chiesa frustration

Federico Chiesa was another involved in the first training session after the international break. For the most point, his finishing was as on point as it was against Bournemouth last month.

But he didn't quite have that same composure with the pressure on in training. As one of the coaches began to count down from five to signal the end of a bibs vs non-bibs scenario, the Italian struck a first-time right-footed shot from outside of the 18-yard box.

A look up to the heavens and an exclamation of: "Oh my days," is as good a proof as any Chiesa has fully settled into England.

The 27-year-old will be involved in upcoming Premier League and cup matches, but not the Champions League as he wasn't named in the league phase squad.

Arne Slot absent

There was a notable absentee for the first round of training for Burnley - Slot himself. The head coach is expected along with the remainder of the squad.

In his place, Wednesday's training session was taken by the Reds' lead physical performance coach, Ruben Peeters, plus former first-team player-turned-Under-21s coach, Jay Spearing.

Redecoration project?

Between the time stamps of 2:03 and 2:10 in Liverpool's 'Inside Training' video uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday night, eagle-eyed viewers should be able to spot a wholesome piece of content hidden in the background.

In the scene Frimpong is completing a running exercise in the indoor astroturf area of Liverpool's training ground.

Behind him and above the wooden panelling that lines the edge of the room, from one corner are three pictures that look like they have been installed in recent weeks. They are of Chiesa celebrating his goal against Bournemouth, Rio Ngumoha celebrating his match-winner at Newcastle, and Dominik Szoboszlai taking his free-kick against Arsenal.

It seems the Reds have started a collage of their memorable moments from the 2025/26 campaign, perhaps as motivation to carry on and create more memories.
