Reece James picks up yet another hamstring injury

Reece James’ injury-free run of massively extensive proportions has come to an end after almost one entire month (that’s nearly thirty days!), four appearances, three starts, and about 250 minutes of competitive Premier League action — most of which he played as a de facto left-center back.

Head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed in today’s press conference that our club captain has “felt something” in his hamstring yet again, and that rarely means that he felt something “good”. Maresca’s hoping it’s nothing serious, which also rarely means anything actually good and non-serious. Expecting months here. Again.

“We have just one injured player, that is Reece. He felt something [two days ago] and we don’t want to take any risks for the weekend. He is the only one that is not available for this weekend. [It’s his] hamstring. It’s a muscular problem. We don’t want to take any risks for this weekend and hopefully it’s not something long. “[He] has to be out, for sure this weekend and then we’ll see. At the moment we don’t know how long. Then we’ll see. [...] Sometimes things happen even if you want to avoid them. This weekend he’s not available. Now we start to play every three days so it’s probably difficult he could be available for the Conference but hopefully he can be available soon.” -Enzo Maresca; source: Football.London

James’ absence will likely restore Marc Cucurella to first-choice (“A”-team) left back, with Malo Gusto continuing in his right back role.

As far as Reecey ... who even knows. It’s a frustrating situation, for all I’m sure.
