Marcus Rashford accuses Man Utd of being too reactionary, ‘if your direction’s always…’

Marcus Rashford is preparing for his first full season in Spain after joining Barcelona on loan.

The appointment of Ruben Amorim in November eventually led to the end of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United.

After being frozen out of the United first team, Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season. That was when he, like many other United loanees, attempted to rejuvenate their career by improving their performance away from Old Trafford.

Rashford succeeded by securing a loan move to Barcelona. The United forward dreamed of a switch to Barca, and his entourage worked hard to make it a reality.

Although things didn’t work out in the end for Rashford at United, he’s a boyhood fan and will forever feel a strong affiliation to the club. Furthermore, he remains under contract with the club.

Barcelona will have to decide at the end of the season whether they will keep Rashford beyond the loan deal. They’ve already agreed to cover his wages throughout the campaign.

Marcus Rashford slams Man Utd strategy

Shortly after moving to Barcelona, Rashford caught up with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards for a season-preview-esque podcast episode.

The conversation ranged over multiple topics and Lineker can’t be accused of trying to force any headlines around United.

However, the Red Devils did come up in conversation and Rashford spoke about where he thinks the club has gone wrong in recent years.

Rashford has criticised the club’s strategy throughout his time in the first team, stating that United have not yet begun a transition because they lack a recognisable style of play throughout the club.

These are hard-hitting comments coming directly from a United academy graduate.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Rashford said: “We’ve been way below where we deem United to be but, if you take a step back — which I’ve been able to do especially over the last six months — what do you expect?

“With any team that has been successful over a period of time, they have principles that any coach that comes in, any player that comes in, has to align to.

“Whereas at times I feel like United have just been hungry to win — so we’ll always try to adapt and to sign players to fit this system — but it’s reactionary.

“If your direction’s always changing you can’t expect to win the league.”

It is now up to Ineos to give United direction into the future.

Rashford taking Spanish lessons

Although several members of the Barcelona team speak fluent English, Rashford is taking time to learn Spanish during his loan spell in La Liga.

Frenkie de Jong, who was previously linked with United, is one of the players who is helping Rashford settle due to his ability to translate for him when needed.

Rashford used the language-learning app Duolingo to improve his Spanish over the summer and, since moving to Catalonia, he has begun taking in-person lessons.

“I’ve had a couple of lessons but to be fair, I’m going to get more consistent lessons and just try it that way,” Rashford said.

“I tried a little bit on Duolingo and stuff, but then when I started my first proper lesson, it was different.”
