Andy Robertson has revealed Arne Slot's pre-season message to Liverpool's players that helped motivate their successful Premier League title push.

Robertson, 31, said that Slot called each of the senior players last summer, while many of them were on international duty at the Euros and the Copa America.

He went on to reveal just how much of an impression the Dutchman made on the squad after taking over at Anfield following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have cantered to the Premier League this season in what has capped a remarkable achievement for Slot in his first season in English football.

He made himself one of only five managers, alongside Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte, to win the Premier League with their maiden attempt.

Now, Robertson has lifted the lid on how Slot was able to galvanise his squad.

"It was very clear that he's a winner" 🏆

Andy Robertson has revealed how Arne Slot motivated Liverpool's players ahead of their successful title bid this season

Slot has become one of only five managers to win the Premier League at the first attempt

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Scotland international said: 'It was very clear from the beginning that he was a winner.

'He mentioned where we finished last season [when the Reds' title challenge faltered and they ended up finishing third] and what he wanted to do this season.

'The opening line was ''we finished third last season and [we] aren't happy about that, we want to finish first next season''. I think that comes across to me as though he's a winner'.

Robertson added that he was assisted by Slot's clarity of thought in how he envisioned turned Liverpool into Premier League champions once again.

Although they lifted the title under Klopp in 2019-20, they missed out on the final day in 2021-22 in agonising fashion as Manchester City beat Aston Villa 3-2 to prise the title from Liverpool's grasp.

The left-back continued: 'It was very clear from [early on] that he had a clear plan.

'You never know if it is going to be good or not. [The players thought] we need to back this, we need to implement this and if we do that then it will be good'.

Robertson was speaking ahead of the final round of Premier League fixtures which take place on Sunday afternoon and will see the Reds lift the trophy in front of their own fans for the first time in 30 years.

When they won their previous title under Klopp, fans were absent from stadiums due to lockdown restrictions imposed by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Following their final game of the season, which sees them host Crystal Palace, Liverpool will parade the trophy through the city on Monday, with thousands of supporters expected to line the streets to celebrate the achievement.
