Alexander Zverev reveals how he'll feel if he has to play both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the US Open

Alexander Zverev will continue his quest for a Grand Slam title at the US Open.

The German’s quest for one of the four biggest championships in the sport has been a long and agonising journey.

He has reached three major finals, two of which went to five sets, and two came against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

The pair have won the last two seven Grand Slam titles and Alexander Zverev faced a mammoth task of defeating them on tennis’ grandest stage.

Alexander Zverev is ‘fine’ with possibly facing both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the US Open

Given Sinner and Alcaraz’s Grand Slam form at present, other players will likely have to defeat at least one of them to win the title.

Zverev has experienced that in the finals of the 2024 French Open and 2025 Australian Open, and the latter negatively impacted his entire season so far.

Seeded third at the upcoming US Open, Zverev knows there is a strong possibility he will need to overcome one or both of the ATP’s top two players.

But while speaking about this daunting task, Zverev is more than ready for the challenge. “I want to win a Grand Slam and I want to win the biggest tournaments in the world by beating the best players in the world,” the world number three told reporters.

“I would be more than happy to play Jannik in the semis and Carlos in the finals here, you know. I would be very, very happy to do that.

“If I achieve my dream, if I achieve the goal that I set for myself in lifting the trophy above my head, then I know that I really deserve it, because I went through the most difficult path that there can be at the moment. So that’s totally fine.”

What is Alexander Zverev’s record against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at Grand Slams?

Beating Sinner and Alcaraz at Grand Slams is currently one of the toughest assignments in tennis.

But Zverev has earned some victories against the duo at the majors. He has two wins from his four meetings with Sinner at Grand Slams.

Both of Zverev’s victories came at the US Open, while Sinner won their 2022 round of 16 encounter and January’s Australian Open final.

Against Alcaraz, Zverev also has two wins from four matches at Grand Slam events. He defeated the 22-year-old at the 2022 French Open, before overcoming the world number two at the 2024 Australian Open.

Alcaraz did overcome Zverev in last season’s French Open and the 2023 US Open, the same major that will commence on Sunday.
