The most recent meeting between these two nations came on Australian soil, when they faced off in the 2023 Women’s World Cup semi-final.

Wiegman’s side took a 1-0 lead into half-time courtesy of Ella Toone’s opener.

Sam Kerr’s sensational long-range effort pulled the Matildas back level after the break, but second-half strikes from Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo sealed a spot in the final for England.

They would eventually go on to lose it narrowly to Spain in a 1-0 defeat, before avenging that loss two years later to retain their Euros title.
