President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Tayo Adesoji, has unveiled an ambitious plan to revitalize grassroots participation in the sport across the country, with a particular focus on developing infrastructure in northern Nigeria.

The move, he said, is aimed at unearthing new talents and ensuring that no region is left behind in the sport’s growth and development.

Speaking to reporters, Adesoji explained that the federation has identified the need to spread access to quality training equipment and facilities as a key step toward achieving a truly national representation in table tennis.

He disclosed that plans are already underway to upgrade existing facilities, establish new regional training centres, and distribute modern equipment to underrepresented areas.

“We’ve realized that there’s a wealth of untapped talent across Nigeria, especially in the northern regions where participation has been low,” Adesoji said. “Our goal is to bridge that gap by taking the sport to every part of the country. Table tennis should not be restricted to Lagos or the South — we want every Nigerian child to have a chance to play and develop their potential.”

The NTTF president added that the federation is working closely with local governments, schools, and private sponsors to implement this initiative effectively. He also hinted that the program would include talent identification camps and regional competitions, designed to feed directly into the national development structure.

Adesoji emphasized that the focus isn’t just on short-term gains but on building a system that can produce future stars who will represent Nigeria on the global stage.

“Our long-term vision is to have Nigerian players regularly competing — and winning — at major tournaments like the ITTF World Championships and the Olympic Games,” he stated.

He concluded by calling for continued support from the Federal Ministry of Sports and other stakeholders, assuring that the federation’s renewed strategy will soon make Nigeria a dominant force once again in African table tennis.
