Liverpool headed into the day’s football on Sunday with the knowledge that they could win the Premier League title if results went their way.Unfortunately, Ipswich could not do them the favour needed as they succumbed to a heavy defeat against Arsenal. So, as Liverpool kicked off against Leicester, there was no prospect of the Reds ending the day as Premier League champions.Liverpool’s performance only served to confirm that fact, with Arne Slot’s team once again serving up a slow and sloppy display. As they often have this season, the Reds took a long time to get going, playing without the urgency needed with a title on the line. And as Liverpool huffed and puffed at the King Power Stadium, Slot was told he’d made one glaring mistake with his team selection.Photo by Catherine Ivill – AMA/Getty ImagesLuis Diaz not a good fit through the middleSlot’s selection on Sunday was interesting for a number of reasons. The main one perhaps being that Kostas Tsimikas was picked ahead of Andy Robertson for the second game running.Perhaps Robertson is now a candidate to be sold instead of Tsimikas as Liverpool look to address their left-back situation ahead of the summer.MORE LIVERPOOL STORIESAnother was the decision to go with Luis Diaz through the middle of the attack instead of Diogo Jota. According to BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison, this was a mistake.“I don’t like Luis Diaz in the centre forward position,” said Morrison. “He drops too deep. There is maybe a chance for Diogo Jota to come on and have an influence.”READ MORE: Fabrizio Romano names one player Liverpool will definitely sell amid Luis Diaz claimAfter Diaz missed a decent chance not long after, the former striker made his feelings on Diaz playing through the middle clear for a second time.“It looks like it’s coming,” he said. “Liverpool have upped it. Luis Diaz should be hitting the target, but he’s leaning back. He is not a natural striker.”Liverpool’s summer needs become ever more clearSunday’s game was not a pretty watch. And although we’d argue Diaz did some good while playing through the middle, it’s hard to argue with Morrison here. What the whole thing did achieve is in shining a light on just how badly Liverpool need a new centre-forward this summer.Diaz is of course not the answer, but he was never supposed to be. But as Jota showed by missing two big chances when coming on, neither is he.As for Darwin Nunez, he didn’t even make it on the pitch for a second week running.Liverpool need reinforcements this summer. But they’re going to win the league anyway.
