IND vs WI 1st Test: Why West Indies' decision to bat first vs India backfired?

Kuldeep’s spell stood out not just for its control but also for deceiving the opposition batters. Operating with drift on a pitch offering little turn, he dismissed Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach and Justin Greaves in a decisive burst during the morning session, breaking the backbone of the West Indies innings. Hope was beaten by a delivery that drifted and turned past his forward defence to hit off-stump. Imlach soon followed, trapped plumb in front by another sharply turning ball. Greaves’ attempted reverse sweep against a leg-break also ended in an lbw, as Kuldeep tightened India’s grip on the contest. Though Khary Pierre and Anderson Phillip showed resistance with a 46-run ninth-wicket stand, Jasprit Bumrah broke through after lunch with a precise delivery that cleaned up Pierre. The final pair of Phillip and Jayden Seales frustrated India briefly, adding 27 runs, before Kuldeep returned to end the innings with a cleverly disguised googly that trapped Seales lbw. This five-for takes Kuldeep level with England’s Johnny Wardle for the most five-wicket hauls by a left-arm wrist spinner in Test history, with five each. South Africa’s Paul Adams follows with four. However, Kuldeep reach the number in just 15 Test matches, which is a whopping 13 Tests lesser than what it took Wardle to do the same.
