League Of Ireland Top Scorer Rejects Derry City In Favour Of Odd Move

League of Ireland top scorer Moses Dyer has decided to leave Galway United, reportedly rejecting a move to Derry City in favour of a rather unexpected alternative.

Derry City were said to have activated a buyout clause in the New Zealander's contract (said to be around €60,000) but he turned down the chance to join The Candystripes.

Instead, he has reportedly agreed a deal with Cambodia Premier League side Phnom Penh Crown.

Moses Dyer had been one of the finds of the season for John Caulfield’s Galway side, scoring ten times in 20 matches. He was also named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month award for April.

It was not a fairytale ending for Dyer at Galway as he was sent off in his final appearance for the club following an altercation with Sligo Rover's John Mahon on Monday night.

The forward has eleven caps for the New Zealand international team, scoring one goal against India in June 2018 and has expressed a desire to return to the All Whites squad.

Dyer had played previously his youth football for Auckland City and featured for Eastern Suburbs, Hamilton Wanderers and Manukau United in New Zealand, and enjoyed stints with Northcote City FC in Australia, and Florø SK in Norway.

He joined Vancouver from USL Championship club FC Tulsa in March 2024 and then moved from Canada to Ireland in January 2025.

Phnom Penh Crown have previously won the Cambodian Premier League as recently as 2022 and they top the roll of honour with eight league titles. The Cambodian side have released a number of high profile foreign exports in recent weeks, something that has presumably cleared the way for them to bring in Dyer.
