Liverpool Told They Can Sign ‘Unbelievable’ Star for £80m in ‘Dream’ Move

Liverpool will reportedly have to fork out £75-80m to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider reports that the Reds remain interested in Gordon after missing out on him last summer. He could be back on their radar should Luis Diaz leave Anfield amid interest from Barcelona.

Reports claim that the Colombian will be allowed to leave if the club receive offers of over £50m for the 28-year-old. Arne Slot will want a replacement, given he bagged 13 goals and seven assists in the Merseysiders' Premier League title-winning campaign.

Gordon has been with Newcastle since the summer of 2023 and has become a key player under Eddie Howe on the left wing. He impressed as the Magpies reclaimed their place in the Champions League while also performing well en route to their Carabao Cup win.

O'Rourke delved into the situation and what could lead to Liverpool's interest becoming concrete:

“If Luis Diaz was to leave Liverpool, whether it’s to Barcelona, the Saudi Pro League or somewhere else, they will be in the market for a left-winger. Anthony Gordon came very close to joining Liverpool last summer when Newcastle were being forced to sell some players because of PSR regulations."

Slot's predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, saw the potential in Gordon years ago, branding him a "real talent". Such admiration remains intact at Anfield but a potential deal wouldn't come cheaply:

“Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Gordon and remain interested in him. Newcastle, ideally, do not want to lose him as he’s a key man in Eddie Howe’s side. He signed a long-term deal last October after all that speculation over his future, so to convince Newcastle to sell you’d be looking at £75-80million."

O'Rourke suggested it could be a "difficult" deal for Liverpool to complete because of the finances involved and Newcastle's healthier-looking PSR situation. They are under no pressure to sell their star players, including Gordon and Alexander Isak.

Gordon, dubbed "unbelievable" by Bruno Guimaraes, grew up a Reds fan despite going on to play for cross-city rivals Everton. His desire to make a "dream move" could be the most crucial factor, although he spoke about wanting to win trophies when penning a new deal, and the Magpies did just that by claiming the Carabao Cup.
