Wapda, PAF secure victories

ISLAMABAD: Wapda continued their winning streak, defeating SNGPL, while Pakistan Air Force (PAF) secured a crucial win against Pakistan Army on the second day of the Inter-Department Tennis Trophy here at the PTF Complex on Saturday.

Wapda’s Mohammad Abid and veteran Aqeel Khan recorded comfortable victories to maintain their department’s winning run.

Abid routed Ahtesham Humayun 6-1, 6-1 while Aqeel cruised past Ahmed Babar 6-2, 6-3.

In Thursday’s other round-robin fixtures, PAF’s Mohammad Shoaib won a grueling match, which lasted for 1 hour and 35 minutes, against Muzammil Murtaza of Army 6-2, 7-6(7). Shoaib came back from 5-3 down in the second set tie-break to clinch the thriller.

Earlier, Shoaib’s department-mate Yousaf Khalil defeated Abdullah Adnan of Army 6-4, 6-2 to secure important points for PAF in the round-robin league.
