Liverpool fans are all saying the same thing about Hugo Ekitike after the Premier League opening weekend

Liverpool had plenty of debuts to hand out over the weekend and some made a real impression on the fans.

Football is officially back and for the Reds, they got their title defence off to the perfect start with a 4-2 win at home to Bournemouth.

However, despite claiming all three points, the overall performance was far from ideal, with the weaknesses outweighing the strengths.

One shining light, though, was that of Hugo Ekitike, with the Frenchman excelling on his Premier League debut by grabbing a goal and an assist.

The 23-year-old certainly looks like he will be an astute piece of business, and after seeing all the games over the weekend, Liverpool fans have had a lot to say about their new striker.

Liverpool fans believe they have signed the best striker this summer

Over the summer, all the big clubs seem to have wanted to bring in a new talisman to lead the line, with number nines seemingly back in fashion.

Chelsea signed Joao Pedro, Arsenal brought in Viktor Gyokeres and Manchester United opted for Benjamin Sesko, all of whom failed to score on their debuts.

In fact, none of them managed to make any sort of impression, leaving Liverpool fans to believe that they have signed the pick of the bunch.

One fan put: “We are so blessed to have made the perfect choice of signing Hugo Ekitike,” while another added: “I think we can all agree that the best of the new strikers on show this weekend was Ekitike.”

A third fan put: “Gyokeres might actually be horrible. Ekitike is easily the best of Gyokeres, Sesko and Pedro, and we still might get Isak!”

A fourth believes the weekend could not have gone much better, writing: “Perfect weekend of football. Liverpool won. Ekitike masterclass on his debut. Gyokeres stinker. Sesko stinker.”

Another supporter put: “Ekitike has shown he is the best,” while another summed up their feelings in just a few words, writing: “Ekitike is clear.”

A seventh put: “Thank God we signed players like Ekitike man. Beautiful hold-up play and look at Arsenal with Gyokeres, dude is so bad man!”

A final supporter believes he is worth every penny, rounding off by saying: “After watching all these other forwards play, Hugo ‘Boss’ Ekitike now seems to be a bargain.”

Hugo Ekitike can prove himself further next game

Although he has done very well so far, next week could be one of his biggest in a Liverpool shirt all season, with the Reds taking on Newcastle.

With all the noise that is going on surrounding Alexander Isak, this game is going to be hostile, with the Magpies ready to prove a point.

However, Ekitike has the chance to prove himself even further, especially to Liverpool as he can show why they do not even need to sign Isak anyway.

With this clash set to be fierce, if the Frenchman shows up and manages to win the game for the Reds, he will only cement himself even further as a fan favourite, with this meeting potentially vital in his Liverpool career despite being so early on.
