The Ohio State football program would not have won the national championship last season without Will Howard leading the team. He was the quarterback that the Ohio State Buckeyes needed after a year of Kyle McCord. Howard was a much better leader and way more mobile. After leading the Buckeyes to a national title, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. While he won't be the starter this season behind Aaron Rodgers, he's had a very impressive training camp so far in Latrobe.Unfortunately for Howard, it looks like his run in training camp has had a slight hiccup. According to reports coming out of Steelers training camp, Howard suffered an injury and was actually taken back to the locker room for the training staff to determine the severity of the injury.Former Ohio State football player Will Howard suffers an injury during training campHoward ended up sitting in front of a cart with a trainer.#Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard left the field midway through practice today and was taken back toward the locker room, sitting in the front of a cart with a trainer.I didn’t see what happened to him. Skylar Thompson currently working with the third team. — Alan Saunders (@ASaunders_PGH) August 5, 2025This a very unfortunate for a player that is fighting for the second-string duties with Mason Rudolph behind Rodgers. Howard has looked very impressive so far, and is on track to get a decent number of reps in preseason with Rodgers likely to sit out most, if not all, of the three preseason games.Howard is just a good football player, even if he doesn't have an elite arm or an elite set of wheels. He is good enough to lead an NFL team at some point just because of how well he thinks his way through a game. He's accurate enough, especially with the deep ball, to get a look at a starting job.At this point, it's unclear what the injury is or how long it might keep him out. Fans of both the Buckeyes and the Steelers are hoping that he won't be out for very long with whatever ailment he has. We will keep you posted on any injury news that comes out.
