Even as speculation continues to swirl around MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings icon has once again made it clear—his bond with the franchise runs far deeper than just cricket.

Speaking at a private event in Chennai on Saturday, the former India captain assured fans that no matter what lies ahead in his playing career, his heart will always beat for CSK.

“There is no CSK without Dhoni” is a phrase often heard among fans, and Dhoni himself seems to echo that sentiment. The 44-year-old reaffirmed that his connection with the franchise will endure beyond his time as an active player.

“I have always said that there is a lot of time for me to decide, but if you are asking about coming back in a yellow jersey I we will always be in a yellow jersey, whether I am playing or not, is a different matter,” Dhoni said.

“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15-20 year,” he added.

Dhoni, who has been the face of Chennai Super Kings since the inception of the IPL in 2008, returned to lead the side during a turbulent 2025 season. Initially stepping aside to let Ruturaj Gaikwad take over the reins, Dhoni was thrust back into the captaincy midway through the campaign after Gaikwad was ruled out with an elbow injury.

Despite his return, it was a season to forget for the five-time champions. CSK managed just four wins in 14 games and finished at the bottom of the table—one of their poorest performances in IPL history. Yet, Dhoni’s presence in the dugout and on the field continued to command unwavering support from fans and players alike.

The retirement chatter has followed Dhoni closely over the past few seasons, with many expecting him to bow out after IPL 2024. But the veteran wicketkeeper surprised everyone with a strong recovery from a knee injury and returned to action in 2025, once again donning the yellow jersey.

While Dhoni has not officially confirmed whether he will take the field in IPL 2026, he has already endorsed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s return as captain.
