Kobbie Mainoo's Man Utd 'situation' has 'alarmed' three elite European teams, 'potential replacement' for another club

The ongoing transfer saga around the future of Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo at Old Trafford has now reportedly sparked the interest of several clubs.

Kobbie Mainoo has had his Manchester United future plunged into doubt amid the 2025-26 Premier League season after expressing his desire to leave this summer.

The 20-year-old Stockport-born midfielder has tumbled down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford and he lost his place in the Red Devils’ starting XI.

According to reports last week, Mainoo communicated that he wanted to leave the Premier League club in the short term and to complete a loan move away from United.

Mainoo was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the September break and could risk missing the 2026 World Cup due to his lack of playing time at United.

It is believed that the United midfielder wants to secure regular first-team football away from the Premier League club and keep himself in contention for England.

Kobbie Mainoo has only managed two appearances for Manchester United so far this season, with Ruben Amorim urging the player to fight for his place in the starting XI.

The Red Devils talent started in United’s humiliating shootout defeat to Grimsby Town and picked up an assist in the second-round Carabao Cup tie at Blundell Park.

Mainoo was back on the bench for the subsequent match and the England midfielder was brought on as a substitute in United’s 3-2 Premier League win over Burnley.

Stretty News now reports that the ‘situation’ around the United youth academy product has caught the eye of a ‘host of top European suitors’ amid the window.

The publication reports that Mainoo has ‘alarmed’ top-tier European sides like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli about potentially signing him from United.

It is said that Lyon could challenge Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli in the race to sign Mainoo as a ‘potential replacement’ for AC Milan-linked Adrien Rabiot.

Man Utd’s transfer position on Kobbie Mainoo and the interest of three Premier League clubs in the England star

United shut down Mainoo’s transfer request last week and the Red Devils want the England international to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place under Amorim.

Stretty News added that Mainoo has attracted interest in England as well, with both Tottenham and Everton being two of the Premier League ‘suitors’ keeping tabs on him.

The news outlet claims that Brighton have also shown an interest in the United midfielder and the Red Devils could use him as a makeweight to sign Carlos Baleba.

According to BBC Sport, it is now growing increasingly ‘unlikely’ that Mainoo will leave Old Trafford before the transfer window slams shut on 1st September.

BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, tweeted that Amorim has no desire to let the Three Lions ace leave.
