Jannik Sinner produced his strongest performance at the 2025 Cincinnati Open so far.

The Italian was not at his best against Adrian Mannarino in round four, but he raised his level against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals.

Jannik Sinner had yet to defeat the Canadian after losing their two previous meetings in Madrid and Cincinnati three years ago.

But Auger-Aliassime has not played Sinner since he became a Grand Slam champion and the world number one, and he had no answer to his brilliance.

Jannik Sinner becomes fifth ATP player this century to have 25 or more successive hard court wins

Sinner needed just one hour and 11 minutes to defeat Auger-Aliassime at the Cincinnati Open.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has won 16 of 20 points on his opponent’s serve, which illustrates how well he was returning.

Auger-Aliassime committed eight double faults in the match and he hit 13 unforced errors in set one. Though he led the second set 2-0, Sinner won six successive games to seal an emphatic victory.

Sinner’s latest result marks his 25th successive win on a hard court, and he is the fifth man to achieve this feat.

Jannik Sinner was pleased with how he returned serve against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati

Sinner is now just seven wins away from reaching 300 victories on the ATP Tour.

He has also lost just three matches this year and he is looking to win his second successive title after winning Wimbledon in July.

Sinner now seems to be hitting his stride as he reaches the last eight in Cincinnati and was thrilled with his performance played against Auger-Aliassime.

“I felt that I was returning very well today,” Sinner said post-match. “I think that was the key point, which gave me the confidence to serve well.

“I had a small drop in the second set when he broke me. It could have been a small change but I am happy I broke him back quite early.

“He is a very difficult opponent because he serves well, he moves well. Physically in incredible shape and hits the forehand very well. But we prepared in the best way, also tactically and I felt like today I was playing some great tennis.”
