Manchester United are reportedly targeting a shock move for Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi.

The Nigerian star is said to be available for a cut-price fee this summer after the Foxes were immediately relegated from the Premier League.

Mail Sport understands that Ndidi had a release clause inserted into his contract when he penned a three-year extension after helping them win the Championship title last year.

United are interested in signing Ndidi and could trigger his clause for just £9million, according to talkSPORT.

The bargain clause only became active as a result of Leicester's relegation to the second tier.

Everton and a number of Saudi Pro League sides are also reportedly interested in the 28-year-old.

Ruben Amorim's side are linked with a move for the Leicester City midfield star for just £9m

Last summer both United and Everton were linked with the former Genk man but he signed an extension, taking his stay at the King Power to eight years.

Ndidi made 28 appearances in the Premier League last season, providing five assists as Leicester finished in 18th, 13 points below Tottenham in 17th.

Meanwhile, the Red Devil's missed out on an estimated £100m windfall after losing last month's Europa League final and missing out on a Champions League berth.

Old Trafford won't see European competition for just the the second time in 35 years, as United finished in 15th in the league - their lowest since they were relegated in 1974.

Ndidi's low fee could make him an affordable target, while Casemiro is rumoured to be heading for an exit.

Despite missing out on European football, Ruben Amorim's side still have a healthy budget and have already scooped Matheus Cunha for £62.5m.

They have also launched a bid in excess of £60m for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.

Amorim is desperate to bolster his squad but he must offload deadwood before spending even more heavily.

They are looking to sell Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony.
