Chelsea, Aston Villa and European giants handed mega fines by UEFA for financial rules breachesChelsea and Aston Villa have been fined by UEFA for breaching rules in relation to football earnings.Barcelona, Croatian side Hadjuk Split, Lyon and Porto have also been sanctioned.2 Chelsea have been dealt a huge fine by UEFA Credit: GettyUEFA announced on Friday a series of decisions made by The First Chamber of the Club Financial Control Body [CFCB].All five clubs did not comply with the football earnings rule, with the 2023 and 2024 financial years coming under their analysis.The CFCB had a particular focus on 'transactions involving the sale of tangible or intangible assets, as well as 'the exchange of players [swaps] and player transfers between related parties'.Chelsea, Villa, Hajduk Split, Barcelona, Lyon and Porto have agreed to settlement agreements with the CFCB.All clubs have agreed to pay a fine, which is calculated by the size of their assessed breaches.For the first charge, Chelsea were handed fine of €80million [£69m], although at this point only €20m [£17.2m] must be paid now with the remaining €60m [£51.8m] conditional or suspended.The rest will only be due if they breach settlement within the agreed period of four years.For the squad cost control charge, Chelsea must pay €11m [£9.5m] regardless, taking their total UEFA fines so far to £26.5m.Meanwhile, Villa have been given a €20m [£17.3m] over a three-year period for the first charge of which €5m [£4.3m] must be paid.The remaining €15m [£12.9m] will only be due if they breach the settlement within the agreed period of three years.2 UEFA say the clubs have agreed settlements Credit: GettyThe Birmingham-based club must also pay €6m [£5.2m] for the squad cost control charge, taking their total fines so far to around £9.5m.Furthermore, the clubs also agreed to be subject to a restriction on new player registration on their List A for UEFA club competitions.This could be conditional, unconditional or both and covers one or more seasons depending on the length of the settlement.Lyon have agreed an exclusion from 2025/26 UEFA club competitions should they be officially relegated to Ligue 2 amid financial issues.UEFA also revealed that the CFCB were monitoring other clubs who were under settlement regimes in the 2024/25 season.AC Milan, Inter Milan, Monaco, Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain, Besiktas, Trabzonspor and Royal Antwerp have fulfilled their financial targets.
