Everton backed to complete shock Man Utd transfer: "It's a perfect match"

Everton could target Manchester United in the summer transfer window and one player would be a 'perfect match' for David Moyes if the Toffees were to get a deal over the line

Everton should target a summer move for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund according to their former player Pat Nevin. Hojlund has endured two difficult seasons since joining the Red Devils in a £72million deal from Atalanta.

The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 52 appearances last term as United struggled to find the net and 16 goals in 43 outings during his debut season in 2023/24. Ruben Amorim is looking to strengthen his forward line this summer having already added Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen linked to transfers.

Nevin, who played 150 games for the Toffees and scored 21 goals, reckons David Moyes would be able to prise the Denmark international away from Old Trafford on loan. And he believes the Everton boss will find a player well-suited to his style.

Moyes will find himself short a striker as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's contract runs out at the end of June. And Nevin reckons the perfect solution is out there.

Speaking to Spin Genie, the ex-Scotland international has urged Moyes to make a move. "There are some good names out there," said Nevin.

"The loan market is something Everton have looked at in the past and I think it's something they should revisit again. It gives them all sorts of possibilities as they're not spending £50 million.

"There are two or three players that they could think about bringing in from Manchester United but Rasmus Hojlund is the one that sticks out. If you look at his style of play, it’s a perfect match with how David Moyes likes to play. While his numbers haven't been great this season, Moyes loves hard workers and that's something you can never complain about in regards to Hojlund.

"It's not very often David Moyes has had a 20-30 goals-per-season striker. He’s had strikers who run in behind and create space to bring others into play, so, if he's available, Hojlund could be a tempting option for Everton to sign on loan."

Everton have already missed out on Liam Delap this summer, after the striker joined Chelsea. Moyes has admitted that the Toffees will need to find greater success to enjoy an easier time in the transfer market.

“Players, if they have the chance, want to play in the Champions League. I’ve just come out of a club ( West Ham United) where three out of four years we played in Europe and what a difference it makes when you’re a club in Europe because the players are attracted, whatever European competition that is, is attractive to a lot of players and makes a big difference," he said.

“We’re not at that at the moment so I don’t know if I can compare us selling Wayne [Rooney] but we were always a club that didn’t have a huge amount of money. We had to generate some money ourselves.

“But then, the club had £500million to spend and in that period and I don’t think it was as good as when we spent carefully and were a little bit wiser."
