The 2025 Asia Cup trophy handover drama is still going on. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also PCB chairman, has asked the Indian team to collect the trophy from him. He wanted to present the trophy to the Indian team after their win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final last Sunday. But after the Indian players refused, Naqvi walked away from the venue with the cup.

As a result, Indian players were denied the chance to celebrate with the trophy on the ground after their big win. They still haven’t received the cup, even after five days of drama. The BCCI has threatened to lodge a complaint against Naqvi with the International Cricket Council (ICC) after he reportedly told the Indian board to collect the trophy from him if they really want it.

Former India player slams Naqvi

Now, former India all-rounder Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, has criticised Naqvi’s actions. Speaking to India Today, he said Naqvi has no knowledge of the sport and has damaged the reputation of Pakistan with his behaviour.

“All these things should not have happened. When players lift that trophy in front of the fans, or on live TV, that is when it looks good. Mohsin Naqvi has no knowledge of the sport. How a sport should be played, how one should behave. There were so many people from the Indian team who were standing on the dais afterwards. He should have told someone else to give the trophy to the Indian team. The PCB chief has destroyed his and his country’s reputation,” Madan Lal said.

“Why should Suryakumar Yadav go to the Asian Cricket Council office to collect the trophy? India won, you should have let them celebrate with the trophy on the ground. But of course, he does not have any knowledge, in their country everything is decided by the armed forces,” he added.
