Man United told they need to complete two transfers to avoid penaltyThe Premier League's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations continue to haunt Manchester United in the summer transfer windowManchester United head coach Ruben Amorim (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images)Manchester United have been told they need to complete a 'couple' of sales to avoid a breach of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2025/26 season.Since taking control of United's football project in February 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stressed the importance of working frugally to avoid sanctions from the Premier League. However, he has come under fire for perceived financial mistakes, particularly in the case of giving Erik ten Hag another summer transfer window only to sack him in October and the disastrous appointment and subsequent split with Dan Ashworth.Heading into the 2025/26 season, there has been a push from United supporters and critics for the club to bring in new players and refresh their team. Last season was one to forget for the Reds and the lack of Champions League football this coming year has hindered Ruben Amorim's ability to complete deals.Despite this, they have made a few good signings in the form of Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha. However, football finance expert and senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, Dr Dan Plumley, has told Football Insider that the Reds need to make sales to balance their books."The PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) caveat is important within this and what the Premier League do next," he told Football Insider. "But if you look at the context of when clubs make those transfers, if it is at the start of a new year PSR-wise, you are baking in that cost for the year, which you know is going to impact the bottom line."And then you’ve got how that fits with the three-year rolling period. You do know as a club where you’re setting your sights because you are committing to that cost, and of course, if you then add more players this summer, then you are adding to that cost for this year.Article continues below"Sometimes you’ll see clubs work on three-year transfer cycles as well. United have been a little bit more volatile."It still appears to me that they need to get a couple off the books. And of course, they want to get a couple off the books."I think if you’re looking at the here and now and what happens between now and the transfer window closing, if they are going to go out and sign more players, there’s probably going to have to be a couple that leave to offset that." The priority for Amorim will be to find new clubs for the players who requested their departures from Old Trafford earlier this summer.Marcus Rashford has already completed a loan move to Barcelona but four of his teammates currently remain at Old Trafford despite wanting to leave. Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho all want out of the club but Amorim stated this week that he would be open to reintegrating those players if no suitable bids were put forward. Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Article continues belowMake sure you don't miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
