Grigor Dimitrov's replacement at the US Open has been named as former top 20 player with two ATP titles

Grigor Dimitrov is among the high-profile players set to miss the US Open this year, having last taken to the court at Wimbledon.

Dimitrov was on the verge of a famous round of 16 win over Jannik Sinner, but retired hurt after injuring his pectoral muscle.

The former ATP number three has been limited to just 28 matches this season, and frustratingly remains sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Injury scares have been a common theme across the ATP and WTA tours ahead of the US Open, led by world number seven Qinwen Zheng.

Zheng has undergone surgery just before the Grand Slam, while Paula Badosa remains absent amid her ongoing injury struggles.

Fortunately, Marta Kostyuk is set to play at the US Open despite her injury issues at the Cincinnati Open, with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina suggesting his US Open presence despite also retiring hurt in Cincinnati.

But definitely out of action in New York is Dimitrov, who will be replaced at Flushing Meadows by Alejandro Tabilo.

The 28-year-old Chilean once reached number 19 in the ATP Tour rankings, but currently occupies 103rd place.

What ATP titles has Alejandro Tabilo won in his career?

Tabilo is currently preparing for the US Open at a challenger event in Cancun, where he takes on Francesco Passaro first up.

That move comes after the Chilean took on the Cincinnati Open, where Tabilo lost his opener to Roman Safiullin.

He boasts two ATP titles from his career so far, having also lost two finals in Santiago and Cordoba in 2024 and 2022 respectively.

Tabilo ironically lost to Dimitrov in Monte Carlo earlier this year, having previously picked up impressive wins against Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka.

The Chilean is now set for just his third appearance at the US Open, where he has never made it beyond the second round.

This year, he suffered first and second round exits at the Australian Open and French Open respectively, then missed Wimbledon with injury.
