Liverpool might have one last ace up their sleeve as they strive to tip the Alexander Isak dominoes in their favour. Manchester United's status as favourites to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig could potentially derail Liverpool's pursuit of Isak.

Newcastle will only part ways with Isak once they've secured a replacement. The Magpies had their sights set on Sesko, reportedly tabling a £70million bid for the Slovenian international.

Leipzig are believed to have accepted this offer, which would have boosted Liverpool's chances of securing Isak. However, it was widely reported on Wednesday that Sesko's preference is to join Man Utd, and negotiations between the two clubs are advancing swiftly.

Yet, Liverpool might choose to play their Harvey Elliott card as a final gambit to secure Isak this summer. As per The Athletic, Leipzig have approached the Anfield side about signing Elliott, who seems unlikely to get regular game time under Arne Slot next season.

Newcastle have also shown interest in the 22 year old, who impressed for England at the Under-21 European Championship earlier this summer. Liverpool could consider loaning the midfielder to Tyneside to strengthen Eddie Howe's squad and possibly sway Sesko into a dramatic change of heart, reports the Express.

Newcastle have yet to announce a marquee first-team signing during a challenging summer window. However, the potential acquisition of Elliott could spark Sesko's interest in the club. The 22 year old forward might view the Liverpool talent as the kind of creative force that would enable him to excel at St. James' Park.

Currently, Sesko is eyeing a Manchester United side that's showing significant progress under Ruben Amorim. Even without the lure of European football at Old Trafford, it's understandable why he might find the Red Devils a more attractive prospect.

Elliott has dropped hints about his future, stating earlier this summer: "Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But as I said, most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career."

While Sesko appears on the verge of committing to Manchester United, Newcastle haven't given up hope and may make one last push to sway him their way. They boast Champions League football for the second time in three seasons, and Elliott's potential arrival could significantly bolster their midfield options.

Liverpool are still keen on securing Isak's signature and should pull out all the stops to influence Sesko's decision towards Newcastle. This strategic move would potentially open the door for the Magpies to consider an offer from Liverpool for their prized striker.

With Sesko's transfer to Old Trafford looking increasingly likely, Liverpool's chances of landing Isak seem to be fading.
