Khalid Jamil has been named the new head coach of the Indian men’s national football team, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed on Friday.The AIFF Executive Committee, in the presence of the Technical Committee, approved Khalid Jamil’s appointment for the role.Earlier, the Technical Committee had shortlisted three candidates for the role - Jamil, British coach Stephen Constantine, who has coached the Indian team twice previously, and Slovakia’s Štefan Tarkovič - from a pool of 170 applicants.Jamil, who was managing Indian Super League (ISL) side Jamshedpur FC before his appointment, will become the first Indian to take charge of the national football team since Savio Medeira’s short stint between October 2011 and June 2012.The Indian football team's head coach position had been vacant since Spaniard Manolo Marquez left the post last month after managing just one win in eight games over his year-long tenure.
