Former Gamecock, NFL star Jadeveon Clowney arrested in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Former South Carolina Gamecock and current NFL star Jadeveon Clowney was recently arrested in Rock Hill, according to records obtained by WIS on Friday.

A police report states Clowney was arrested by the Rock Hill Police Department on Sept. 12 and charged with trespassing and failure to identify.

According to the report, an officer was working an off-duty assignment at an apartment complex to prevent drivers from parking there during a high school football game across the street.

Clowney drove to the area, with police saying he “indicated that he was probably going to the football game.” He also told officers that his aunt lived at the apartment complex and he had planned to park there. Clowney was then reportedly told that he could not park at the complex if he did not live there.

Documents state that Clowney then began shaking his head and told police “in a definitive tone” that he was going to see his aunt while pointing to the back of the complex’s parking lot. The officer then reportedly directed him to an overflow lot where all other vehicles were parking, but police said Clowney again stated he was going to visit his aunt.

The police report states the officer told Clowney multiple times that he could not park in the parking lot and that his vehicle would be towed if he did.

“Clowney immediately became very argumentative and questioned the reporting officers’ authority to tow his vehicle, but did not allow the reporting officer to explain his authority to do so, instead interrupting the officer as he attempted to explain,” the report further states.

The officer then reportedly decided to issue a trespass warning to Clowney and called another officer over. According to the report, Clowney then became “highly argumentative, boisterous and talked loudly over [the] reporting officer repeatedly preventing the reporting officer from explaining that he was going to be issued a trespass warning for the complex.”

Clowney reportedly refused to show his identification when asked by police, but never tried to drive away. Police do, however, note that he stated at least twice that he was trying to leave before continuing to argue. He was then placed under arrest and jailed before being released on bond.

Clowney was a star defensive end for South Carolina before being picked No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has spent over a decade in the league, with his most recent stint being with the Carolina Panthers.

Clowney signed with the Dallas Cowboys two days after his arrest on Sept. 14 and could play as soon as Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
