Manchester United sent new Ruben Amorim sack message - 'Not a disaster'

Doubt continues to swirl over the Man United manager after a poor start to the season

Doubt continues to swirl over Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim after a slow start to the season, picking up four points from four league games - but some fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section say it's too early to send Amorim packing.

The club sanctioned a significant summer transfer spend in order to address last season's glaring weakness, a toothless attack. Amorim needed a fast start to put the nightmare of the 2024/25 campaign behind him, but defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City, a draw with Fulham, and a nervy last-minute win against Burnley have done little to settle fans' nerves.

Amorim retains the support of the club hierarchy for now, and he is under contract until 2027. He has signalled that he will continue to resist calls to change his system in an attempt to improve results, saying: "When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.

"We will talk about that every game that we lose. I don't believe in that, in the system, or whatever. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change."

Some fans say that sacking Amorim is not the road back to success at Old Trafford. Reader Utd20T says: "Amorim is certainly not out of his depth as some suggest. He's actually tackled many issues since his arrival. The system wasn't at fault for the defeat [against Man City]. All three goals were due to errors - lack of focus and aggression - something we've witnessed under different managers and different systems.

"The system isn't perfect but neither is a 4-3-3 or any system. We still need additions to the team but that can't be fixed in one summer. Of course Amorim does need results, but losing to City and Arsenal isn't the disaster it has been portrayed to be."

Commenter Anniemause writes: "Whilst it's clear Amorim's out of his depth he's not the only one. From Ratcliffe down, Ineos seem totally incapable of running the football side of the club. The first 15 months have been littered with bad footballing decisions and absolutely no good ones, let alone inspired ones.

"Given it's unlikely United could parachute in a manager to replace Amorim with the sort of Premier League experience needed to turn around this situation, it may be the prudent course to keep him on board and change things above him. In that way it minimises further disruption to the squad in their day to day activities. Expecting the squad to adapt to another management style might break them completely."

Jambon1968 pleads with Amorim to compromise: "I really like Amorim and I want him to succeed, but it is almost like he is talking himself out of a job... he could easily switch the formation and has the players to do it, and I just can't understand why he wouldn't at least want to give it a try... can it really get any worse? Wilcox needs to talk this out and if he really can't adapt, it's probably never going to work."

Tt84 writes: "I'm happy to give him until the end of October. It's always darkest before the light... In the build up play, the passing, the getting forward, we look good. That is despite the fact our midfield is lacking, and despite the fact we have had shocking goalkeepers.

"Our problem is that we cant get the ball under the net. Give him chance to try and fix it."

Reddeadhead says: "Is there an available manager out there who can rescue United from this mess?"

Others can't see Amorim remaining in his post for much longer. IlSacristano writes: "I feel sorry for Amorim. He is a good bloke. But just as much as is said about players not having PL experience goes for managers too. I think he is young and out of his depth. All the cracks in his system are being exploited because United's game is so predictable. Sadly I don't think he will make it to Christmas."

Fastag thinks it's a simple decision: "Amorim should be sacked immediately, because how can you keep a manager who won only 8 games in 31 Premier League games? Even a team without a manager will not have a record like this."
