Newcastle Prepare Record-Breaking Contract Offer for £63m Star

Newcastle United are reportedly willing to break their club-record wage to keep talisman and golden boy Alexander Isak at the club for the foreseeable future, according to reports - with the Magpies keen on keeping the core of their squad amid interest from other clubs in the Swedish star.

Isak, 25, produced his best goalscoring season yet over the past 12 months with 27 goals in just 42 games for the Magpies, including a personal best 23 in the Premier League alone - and that has prompted the club to potentially extend his contract to fend off interest from other clubs.

Report: Newcastle United Set to Offer Alexander Isak New Contract

The striker has interest from across the continent

The report by The Times states that Newcastle are willing to break their club's wage record to keep Isak - despite Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona having shown an interest in the Swedish star after his exceptional form at St. James' Park.

Newcastle are thought to be constrained as to what salary they can offer him, but are keen to fight off any approach for their star man after another outstanding campaign from the man who cost them £63million.

23 Premier League goals, qualification for the Champions League and the winning goal in the League Cup final means he's a hero on Tyneside, although they are aware of interest - and with that in mind, bosses are ready to open talks on a new deal that would take him beyond their record of £150,000-per-week, ahead of other stars such as Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.

Liverpool have the funds available to test Newcastle's nerve despite buying Florian Wirtz for what is a British record transfer fee, as well as already signing Jeremie Frimpong and being close to landing Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez.

Newcastle are thought to be concerned that an offer could be made for his services next month, and although Liverpool aren't actively seeking a new talisman, they could be among those competing for his services if Isak wanted to leave.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Alexander Isak has 16 goals in 52 Sweden caps.

Isak does have three years left on his current deal, but despite Liverpool being likely to offer a more lucrative deal thanks to PSR concerns at St. James' Park, he's not given any indications that he wants a move just yet - which could lead the club to giving him a new deal, especially with Champions League football on the horizon.
