President of Barau FC, Shawwal Barau I. Jibrin, has dismissed reports alleging that its player was killed on Saturday during a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Katsina United.

There were reports alleging that a player of Barau FC, Nana Abraham, was stabbed on Saturday during the match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

Earlier, the club’s Media Director, Ahmad Gwale, had claimed that the player was attacked by a pitch invader shortly after the team equalised.

The club further confirmed the attack in a post on its official X handle.

Following the report, the NPFL imposed a fine of N9m on Katsina United for breaching the league’s Framework and Rules during the said match on November 8, at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

But responding, Katsina United have refuted the claims, noting that the reports did not reflect the actual account of the incident.

Meanwhile, Barau FC, in a statement signed by the club’s President, on Monday, clarified that none of its players was killed.

The statement, however, confirmed that supporters of the home team attacked players and fans of Barau FC, leaving 9 persons injured, including one player, a technical consultant, a curator and six supporters of the club, with Nana Abraham sustaining a deep cut on his neck.

It added that Abraham, alongside other injured persons, had been discharged from a hospital in Kano.

The President urged all supporters of the club and football lovers in the country to remain calm, describing football as a tool for promoting unity.

“He commended the Nigeria Premier League for the sanctions imposed on Katsina United, noting that it would serve as a deterrent against future occurrences.

“We glorify Allah SWT that all the injured persons have been discharged, including Abraham, who had a cut on his neck. He was discharged on Sunday night. The news that one of our players was killed and the throat of another was slit was fake, and misinformation was being spread to cause confusion,” the statement noted.
