Eberechi Eze mural ruined after star snubs Tottenham transfer for Arsenal

Arsenal have swooped in ahead of their north London rivals Tottenham to steal Eberechi Eze and a new mural near their stadium of the England star has now been targeted

A mural of Ebere Eze which was erected near Arsenal's stadium has been defaced, seemingly by Tottenham fans, ahead of confirmation of his dream move to The Emirates.

Eze, 27, has been the subject of interest from both north London clubs this summer following another stellar season in Crystal Palace colours which culminated in him netting the winner in the FA Cup final. After weeks of speculation over his future, it seemed as though the attacking midfielder would be heading to Spurs earlier this week, only for Arsenal to swoop at the eleventh hour.

An injury to Kai Havertz forced Arsenal back into the market and they swiftly hijacked Tottenham's proposal, with Eze's switch to the now understood to be complete.

Arsenal fans have been revelling in the moment on social media and a new mural of the attacking midfielder popped up in a tunnel near The Emirates on Wednesday night. However, said artwork has been defaced by rival fans before Arsenal have even been able to unveil their new £67million signing.

The picture, which depicted Eze - a boyhood Arsenal fan - doing his goal celebration in a Gunners shirt with the caption 'all roads lead home'. But it was covered by white paint on Saturday. The word Yids, an anti-semitic slur which has been claimed by Spurs fans in recent years, was next to the defaced mural.

North Banksy, the artist behind the original mural, shared a picture on X and said: "Well this is annoying. All that hard work gone in seconds – a bit like Tottenham must feel about their Eze transfer dealings! We will be back soon…"

Eze underwent his Arsenal medical on Friday after pulling out of Crystal Palace's Europa Conference League play-off fixture with Frederikstad. He will not feature when Arsenal host Leeds on Saturday evening but is expected to be unveiled beforehand.

Oliver Glasner and Steve Parish both confirmed Eze would be leaving following the game on Thursday night, with the Palace chairman saying: "We have to move past it. He has been fantastic for the club and we all love him for what he's done and what he's achieved, and we are pleased he will go on to fulfil the other ambitions that he's got."
