Football: FIFA men's U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 - Round of 16 schedule and how to watch live

The 2025 FIFA men’s U-20 World Cup (27 September - 19 October) continues with the knockout stage.

After 10 days of group stage action at the men's youth football tournament in Chile, the under-20 World Cup continues with the round of 16 on the road to the final in Santiago.

The top two nations from the six groups advanced to the knockouts, joined by the four best third-placed nations across the groups. Japan qualified first with a perfect record, winning all three games without conceding a goal.

Hosts Chile also managed to advance in a tense Group A finale, progressing thanks to their conduct score - a number derived from the number of yellow and red cards received across the group stage.

Only one other team alongside Japan made it through with a 100% winning record: six-time champions Argentina, who topped Group D in their pursuit of a record-extending seventh world title.

Over in Group E, the USA finished as group winners where the top three teams – along with South Africa and France - were tied on six points. The 2026 men’s World Cup co-hosts are the top scoring team of the tournament, netting an impressive 13 goals so far.

The round of 16 gets underway on Tuesday (7 October) as the hosts welcome Mexico to Valparaíso, on the way to the final in the Chilean capital on 19 October.
