Molly Qerim, a steadfast ESPN personality who has been a key element of one of the network’s most popular shows, “First Take,” is leaving the program as well as the Disney-backed sports-media giant.

“After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from ‘First Take,'” Qerim said in a note posted to social media. “Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Every morning, I had the privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate and entertaining voices in sports — and with all of you, the best fans in the world.” She hinted that she may have other opportunities in the future: “Stay tuned,” Qerim said.

Speaking to “First Take” viewers on Tuesday, host Stephen A. Smith said that Qerim had been “an enormous part of our success for a decade. Not only did she keep me and many others in line, but she did it with dignity, class and kindness, to say the least.”

Qerim was the quiet sheriff of “First Take,” maintaining a steadfast presence that may not have been the showiest, but which always commanded respect.

Qerim, 41 years old, joined ESPN in 2006. During her early years with the network, she hosted programs centered on college football and fantasy football, but joined “First Take” in 2015 when it was still shown primarily on ESPN2, replacing Cari Champion. Qerim got her start as a anchor for CBS Sports Network.

Burke Magnus, ESPN’s president of content, said in a statement that the network respected Qerim’s decision and wished her well in future roles.
