Daniel Farke sack latest: O’Rourke drops ‘huge’ Leeds verdict

Leeds United are set to throw their weight behind manager Daniel Farke amid speculation he faces the immediate sack, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Whites are prepared to give the boss the summer transfer window to reshape the squad ahead of their Premier League return.

It is believed that Leeds chiefs have concerns about Farke’s record in the Premier League at Norwich, but the hierarchy are ready to provide the manager with “huge” funds this summer.

This comes after well-connected former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Farke will “one million per cent” stay at Elland Road for the start of next season.

Club chairman Paraag Marathe is believed to be a fan of Farke and believes he could become one of the top coaches in Europe with financial backing this summer.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Leeds will stick with Farke next season and are prepared to back him heavily in the summer transfer window.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 15 April that Leeds plan to make six new signings to add Premier League-quality players to their squad.

On top of the concerns about Farke’s dismal Premier League win record of just 12 per cent, there are also concerns that the squad is not of the required quality.

As a result, plans are being put in place to back the manager extensively to ensure he is given the best chance of leading his team to survival.

After seeing Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton’s performances following promotion, Leeds are determined not to suffer the same fate.

Meanwhile, they have set their sights on Aaron Ramsdale and Kalvin Phillips as ambitious options to help with the transition between the divisions.

Jose Mourinho tipped to take over from Daniel Farke

Despite their decision to back Farke through the summer, Leeds have compiled a shortlist of potential managerial options behind the scenes at Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed on 25 April that Jose Mourinho, Steven Gerrard and Lee Carsley have all been mentioned in connection with the role.

In particular, Mourinho’s name has been circulated in connection with a number of managerial roles in the past year, including the likes of Newcastle, Everton and Rangers.

The legendary boss is seen as a “box-office” target for the Yorkshire club, and has never hidden his desire to return to English football.
