Ibrahima Konate could be on his way out of Liverpool should the club make a vital decision in January, with Real Madrid waiting in the wings.

According to Football Insider, Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future at Liverpool has been called into fresh doubt. Real Madrid are lurking in the background to try and sign the French international on a free transfer next summer, and they could succeed if Liverpool end up making a key decision in the January window.

Liverpool ended the transfer deadline day with mixed feelings. Earlier in the day, they finally succeeded in agreeing on a fee with Newcastle United for star striker Alexander Isak, but around the end of Monday, they failed to sign Marc Guehi after Crystal Palace cancelled the transfer following their inability to find a replacement.

Liverpool are already planning a fresh approach in January, although the deal for Guehi might not be as straightforward for them. There are already reports stating that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are interested in the English centre-back, which could put the Merseysiders under pressure.

The pressure is not only about signing Guehi but also losing Ibrahima Konate. The French defender has not signed a new deal yet, and there are already considerable doubts whether he will commit his long-term future to the Anfield faithful.

Liverpool are not showing much concern over Konate’s future as of now, but the pressure could crank up in the months leading up to January. They were expected to offer a new deal to the 26-year-old Frenchman, but there are some doubts, especially if they make a key decision in the winter market.

They have been on the Liverpool star’s trail for some time, and should the Reds pursue Guehi, then Konate is expected to leave. Liverpool fans will certainly hope to see both Konate and Guehi, but there’s a chance both those defenders could end up at the Santiago Bernabeu.
