Benjamin Sesko transfer news: 'Demanding' RB Leipzig set Manchester United, Newcastle United price as striker 'impressed'

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is said to be a target of Manchester United and Newcastle United, and the two clubs reportedly learn the forward's asking price.

RB Leipzig have reportedly set a £69m asking price for striker Benjamin Sesko amid interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The forward was said to be a key target of Arsenal, but the Gunners ultimately settled on Viktor Gyokeres, and the Londoners' decision to pull out of the race has opened the pathway for other sides to sign him.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is keen on bringing in a striker to replace struggling number nine Rasmus Hojlund, who scored just four goals last term in the league.

However, Eddie Howe's Magpies also have an interest in signing the 22-year-old, especially as current striker Alexander Isak's future is in doubt.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg reports that Man United have presented their project to Sesko, who is said to have been impressed by their proposal, though he adds that Newcastle are still in the race and are determined to bring him to England.

Should Sesko join Manchester United this summer?

Amorim's side finished 15th in the Premier League in 2024-25, and following their failure to win the Europa League final in May, they will not play in Europe in 2025-26.

The Portuguese coach is under pressure to improve his team's fortunes next season, and he has made exciting additions in the forward line, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo set to link up at Old Trafford.

Sesko would be able to act as a focal point for the duo, and his ability to run in behind would arguably help get the best out of their creative talents.

The chance to restore United to their perch would be appealing, though there is no guarantee that Amorim will be the coach to lead the Red Devils back to the top, making a transfer to the club inherently risky given the uncertainty regarding the manager's future.

Should Sesko replace Alexander Isak?

Newcastle managed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing fifth last campaign, and the team will participate in Europe's premier competition for the second time in three seasons.

The Toon will be looking to establish themselves as European regulars, as well as to take the next step in the Premier League and close the gap to the division's best.

Striker Isak has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, and his potential exit would open up a pathway for Sesko to join.

While the opportunity to lead the line under Howe would be tempting, the Magpies have struggled to get a number of transfer deals over the line, and it remains to be seen if they will be able to compete with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool in 2025-26.
