The Anfield future of the right-back has not been resolved with his contract coming to an end in the summer of 2025.In the January transfer window, Alexander-Arnold is free to negotiate with teams outside of England. Champions League holders Real Madrid remain the front runners for his signature.The 26-year-old has player over 300 times for Liverpool and has won almost everything there is to win with the club. Speaking ahead of Liverpool's 3-1 win against Leicester City, the current Portugal national team head coach delivered his verdict on Alexander-Arnold's contract situation.Article continues below“Years ago we would have said he’s English and it’s his club so he will stay and finish his career [at Liverpool]," Martinez said. "I don’t think that’s the case now.“The English players love the challenge of going abroad. They feel that to maybe win a Ballon d’Or or the recognition from football world, you have to go abroad.“Then you look at the situation, there are not many players of around the world now with the quality of Trent [who are] available on a free transfer. Let’s be realistic, if Trent wanted to stay at Liverpool, maybe he would have already signed the contract.”
