Notre Dame OL Charles Jagusah Suffers Broken Arm

Notre Dame offensive lineman Charles Jagsuah will miss valuable time after suffering a broken arm in an off-campus accident over the weekend.

“Sophomore OL Charles Jagusah was injured in a UTV accident in Wyoming on July 5th,” the Notre Dame football program said in a statement on Sunday morning. “He has undergone surgery to repair a fracture of his left humerus. The initial prognosis is favorable, and he will return to campus early this week for further evaluation and continued care.”

It’s a familiar situation for Jagusah and the Notre Dame offensive line as the 6-foot-7, 333-pounder missed the entire 2024 regular season after sustaining a right pectoralis muscle during fall camp.

Jagsuah redshirted in 2023 and was projected to start at left tackle last fall before the injury. This season, the Illinois native was expected to start at right guard next to Aamil Wagner and Ashton Craig.

For his career, Jagusah has appeared in just five games and that includes starts at left tackle in the 2023 Sun Bowl and the National Title game seven months ago.

Jagusah returned from his injury last year for Notre Dame’s playoff run, where he saw time in a special-teams role against Georgia and then filled in for an injured Rocco Spindler at right guard against Penn State.

”If you put the film on when he was in the Penn State game and you watched him, you were like ‘Oh, who’s that dude,” stated offensive line coach Joe Rudolph this spring. “And you don’t do that a lot with offensive line, there’s a lot going on for a guy to stand out that way. When you see someone who maybe could be as good as anyone in the country or better, you kind of keep developing in that spot as well.”

Notre Dame will now likely have two options moving forward at right guard. Redshirt sophomore Sullivan Absher has worked at tackle, guard and even center during his time at Notre Dame. The 6-foot-8, 328-pounder would provide similar size on the right side as Jagusah. Redshirt freshman Guerby Lambert missed the last few practices of spring ball following labrum (shoulder) surgery and is expected back at some point this fall. Similar to Absher, the 6-foot-7, 341-pounder provides the Irish with another enormous body at guard if healthy.

It’s probably too early to say if freshman Will Black can play guard or if he would even be an option, as he has yet to practice with the team after arriving in June.
