Lorenzo Musetti claims Jannik Sinner did something to him at the US Open which nobody else ever has

Jannik Sinner once again made a complete and utter mess of a fellow professional, comfortably reaching the semifinal at the expense of compatriot Lorenzo Musetti.

Sinner has barely got out of first gear so far at the US Open, and it has to be said that it’s getting somewhat predictable.

The dominance of Sinner is threatening to make tennis boring and the other players are being sent a resounding message by the Italian with each passing tournament.

Sinner was praised by an Italian legend after his latest routine win and it feels a little bit like Carlos Alcaraz is the only man who can stop Sinner at these tournaments at the moment.

Pundits are getting scared by Sinner’s dominance and after being thrashed by his compatriot, Musetti shared what playing the world number one is actually like in 2025.

Lorenzo Musetti claims Jannik Sinner does something that no other player can

Sinner came through in three routine sets in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to set up a semifinal date with Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Musetti has struggled with injuries in 2025 and was forced to pull out of the French Open against Alcaraz and then lost in round one of Wimbledon.

He explained after losing to Sinner that there is one aspect of his game that is currently better than any other player’s on the entire circuit.

He said in his press conference: “I mean, of course, a lot of things changed from our last meeting. We both grew up, but of course him, he became probably the — I never played, honestly, someone who put me on this kind of rush in the rally, and I didn’t have many chances on the rally, and he was always leading the rally. So that was kind of a bad feeling, of course, when I was playing against him.

“Of course, pretty impressed by Jannik’s performance today. I think he served really well, and he was, you know, pushing me to my limit. Of course, he’s better than me, and he showed. But I’m happy that I played against him to understand even the things that I have to improve. So hopefully soon I can have a test again.”

Musetti must keep knocking on the door

Before Musetti broke down with an injury, he was on the cusp of sending Alcaraz out of Roland Garros and reaching a maiden Grand Slam final.

The Italian has also reached the last four at Wimbledon, and it’s important that these players inside the top 10 continue to be competitive.

Sinner and Alcaraz will both have bumps in the road along their careers, and these players need to be ready to seize the initiative should the big players get knocked out early.

This tournament looks to be heading towards Sinner facing either Novak Djokovic or Alcaraz in the final and for Musetti, it is firmly back to the drawing board.
