Sean Longstaff names the unexpected artist he might pick for Leeds United initiation, he's 'nervous'

Sean Longstaff is a new Leeds United player but he remains a bit ‘nervous’ for his impending initiation to the squad.

Leeds United announced the signing of Sean Longstaff on Friday night, securing him to a four-year deal at Elland Road.

A £15m package had been agreed with Newcastle for Longstaff, who has immediately met up with Daniel Farke’s squad and could make his debut in Saturday’s friendly against Manchester United.

But, he will still have to go through his initiation with the squad, before or after the game.

It has become tradition in football in recent years for new signings to stand up on a chair in front of their new teammates and sing a song.

It will look like a karaoke night at the Leeds dinner when the initiations finally take place, given that four more signings in Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw will have to do it as well.

Longstaff admits it’s one aspect of his Leeds transfer that he isn’t looking forward to, but he might opt for a Justin Bieber song.

Sean Longstaff might sing Justin Bieber in Leeds United initiation

Speaking to Leeds great Michael Bridges in his first interview as a Leeds player, Longstaff discussed the prospect of having to sing in front of his new teammates.

It’s a new predicament for Longstaff, who has completed the first permanent transfer of his career.

Longstaff joined Newcastle when he was nine and has spent nearly 20 years with the club, with only two brief loan stints away from Tyneside.

Making the move itself was difficult, something that Karl Darlow helped convince Longstaff to do.

So the move to Leeds is even more exciting for him, even if his first proper initiation seems daunting.

“I haven’t got my song ready!” he said.

“I think I’ve had to do one when I went on loan once, but it wasn’t really a proper one.

“If there was one thing that was going to stop me from signing, it was probably the thought of having to sing an initiation song.

“I don’t have a clue, I’m going to have to look through my phone. Potentially a bit of Justin Bieber, I’m not sure.

“That’s the bit I’m most nervous for, as soon as that’s out the way, I think I’ll be okay.”

Sean Longstaff could play vs Manchester United, but Patrick Bamford won’t

Leeds fans will have their first chance to watch Leeds’ summer signings on Saturday when they take on Man Utd in their opening pre-season friendly.

It could be a new-look Leeds side given the changes to the squad, though Farke is likely to name two different starting XIs for each half to give as many players minutes as possible.

Longstaff could make his debut alongside the four other new recruits, and there might even be an appearance from Jack Harrison, who is in the squad after two years out on loan at Everton.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports, Patrick Bamford is not with the team for the game.

Fans had been excited by Bamford’s appearance in pre-season training as he looked fit and raring to go after a season disrupted by injury.

However, unless he has been struck with another injury, his snub from the Sweden trip suggests he’s not in the manager’s plans and could leave this summer.
