Football fans rejoice everywhere on Boxing Day and Nottingham Forest supporters are not an exception to that rule.

The beauty of supporting an English club is that football doesn’t grind to a halt for the small matter of Christmas.

Whilst the other major leagues take a winter break, the Premier League ploughs on and keeps supporters across the country entertained.

Forest will face Tottenham at the City Ground on Boxing Day this year – but how have the Reds performed in the fixture for the last five years?

Ahead of the clash with Ange Postecoglou’s team, we’ve looked at the last five games that Forest have played on Boxing Day.

2023/24 – Newcastle United 1-3 Nottingham Forest

The Chris Wood Show was in full flow at St James’ Park last season with the striker scoring a hat trick to stun his former club.

Forest went into the game awaiting a first win under Nuno Espirito Santo and boy did he warm himself to the supporters on that day.

The Reds talisman scored three wonderful goals to leave the stadium in disbelief after Alexander Isak opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

2022/23 – Manchester United 3-0 Nottingham Forest

This one wasn’t actually played on Boxing Day given that it was moved by Amazon Prime for TV coverage but it was the closest fixture to that particular day.

Forest were missing ineligible goalkeeper Dean Henderson for this game and that told as the Red Devils won 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred scored the goals as Forest returned from a break for the Qatar World Cup with an emphatic defeat.

2021/22 – Middlesbrough 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Ryan Yates, look away now! This was a game that the current Forest captain won’t remember overly fondly.

He scored a comical own goal as Forest saw their push towards the play-offs take a bit of a stutter at the Riverside Stadium.

An injury-hit Forest were beaten 2-0 by Boro with Andraz Sporar adding a second goal with 21 minutes remaining of the clash.

2020/21 – Nottingham Forest 0-0 Birmingham

The less said about this one the better really.

A game played behind closed doors during the campaign best remembered for being unmemorable and this one saw the return of Aitor Karanka.

Forest had the best of the game but ultimately couldn’t find a way to beat Birmingham.

2019/20 – Hull City 0-2 Nottingham Forest

A rare Boxing Day win for the Reds took place against Hull during the 2019/20 campaign.

Sabri Lamouchi brought the feel-good factor back to the City Ground with him when he came to the club.

During this game, a Lewis Grabban brace ensured a positive result for the Reds.
