Liverpool think they 'have a very good chance' of signing £84m player after Florian Wirtz

Liverpool have been making some big moves in this summer’s transfer window.

Arne Slot didn’t get much help from the market last year, but after leading the Reds to win the Premier League title, FSG are ready to back him.

Jeremie Frimpong has already arrived, while Liverpool have struck a deal to sign Florian Wirtz for a club-record fee, and he is expected to arrive imminently.

Once that’s done, Liverpool could focus on signing a new striker, and they seem pretty confident about landing one highly sought-after player.

Liverpool think they can beat Manchester United and Chelsea to sign Hugo Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike is expected to leave Eintracht Frankfurt this summer.

The Frenchman was one of the best players in the Bundesliga last season, and he has a number of clubs chasing him this term.

TBR Football revealed in April that Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United scouts all watched Hugo Ekitike during Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League clash against Tottenham.

Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in the striker too, but Florian Plettenberg has now revealed that Liverpool think they have a good chance of landing Ekitike ahead of his other suitors this summer.

But, Darwin Nunez will have to be sold first.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist tweeted: “Liverpool see themselves having a very good chance in the race for Hugo Ekitike.

“However, they have clearly signalled that they still need some time, as sales (including Darwin Nunez) need to happen first. Ekitike is aware of this.

“Chelsea remain in the race. Manchester United have called Eintracht Frankfurt, as revealed.

All three teams have received the same information: his price tag is €100 million (£84m).”

The latest on Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool future

Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool before the start of the new season.

The Uruguay international joined the Reds for big money when Jurgen Klopp was still at the club, but it has to be said that things have not worked out for either party.

TBR Football exclusively revealed that Slot has told Nunez that he will not play much if he stays, which means that a move away is on the cards.

Napoli, under Antonio Conte, are interested in signing Nunez. It will be interesting to see if they can meet Liverpool’s demands.
