Lucknow Super Giants improved their record over five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians by recording a sixth win against them in seven meetings. On Thursday, LSG secured an impressive 12-run win – their second of the ongoing season – to climb up to the sixth spot on the points table.

LSG head coach Justin Langer seemed pretty happy with the performance, and it reflected in how he playfully answered a phone call in the middle of his interaction with the media on late Friday night.

Langer was addressing a query on LSG fast bowler Mayank Yadav’s fitness when the phone of a reporter kept on his desk started ringing. The former Australia opener was quick to spot and asked, “Whose mum is calling?"

Langer’s jovial mood had a lot to do with how LSG bounced back after losing their first home game of the ongoing IPL 2025. The Rishabh Pant-led side suffered a big defeat to Punjab Kings earlier this week following which their mentor Zaheer Khan raised questions over the pitch which he indicated didn’t suit his team’s strength.

However, LSG team management will be a lot happier given the result of Friday night that saw them rack up 203/8 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium before limiting MI to 191/5 for their second win in four games.

Langer addressed the pitch debate and had a different opinion than Zaheer.

“To be completely honest, both pitches here have been excellent for the past two years. There was a little bit of emotion after the last game. My whole time as the head coach, I’ve really enjoyed playing here. It’s nice to have a little bit of variations on how they play. The less we talk about the pitches the better," Langer said.
