Rasmus Hojlund Clause Leaked, As Man United's Next 'Bomb Squad' Member Set To Leave

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of Ruben Amorim, Manchester United are pressing ahead with their summer transfer window plans. Rasmus Hojlund and three 'bomb squad' members are set for exits.

On Thursday, it was widely reported that Alejandro Garnacho was heading to Chelsea for an upfront fee of £40 million. United have placed a clause in the deal that would see the club make 10% of any future transfer if the Argentina international were to leave the Blues.

Garnacho would be the second departure from what was a five-man grouping labelled the bomb squad by the English media. Marcus Rashford is on a season-long loan at Barcelona, leaving Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia in their separate training pod at the club's Carrington base.

The summer transfer window closes, for the Premier League, on Monday evening (September 1), by which point United will have faced Burnley at Old Trafford. United brass offered their support of Amorim, through media sources, on Thursday but failing to beat the newly-promoted Clarets at home may spell the end for Amorim.

Were Amorim to depart, some of the outcast United stars may seek to hang around in the hope that a new manager gives them a fresh chance at the club. United's director of football, Jason Wilcox and his recruitment team may have other ideas, though.

As the 2025 summer transfer window winds up, United are set to move on at least two more 'bomb squad' players, while a significant clause in a potential Rasmus Hojlund deal has been revealed by Italian media.

Rasmus Hojlund nearing Napoli switch

The next of Ruben Amorim's unwanted quintet set to leave Manchester United is Tyrell Malacia. The Dutch defender has been plagued by injuries and poor form since signing for United when they were managed by Erik ten Hag.

Malacia returned to the United first team squad, last season, but was substituted at half-time in three of his starts under Amorim. He was loaned out to PSV for the final months of the 2024/25 season, playing 12 games for the Eindhoven side. French side Lille were interested in securing his services for the Ligue 1 season, but Malacia may be off to Spain, on loan.

Elche have been in touch with United, according to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto, and Malacia is said to be keen to test himself in La Liga. He may come up against Antony, while in Spain. The Brazilian is set to join Real Betis for a season-long loan deal, with the Spaniards then obligated to buy him for €33m in the summer of 2026.

Rasmus Hojlund is not part of that exiled group of United players, but Amorim and the club brass appear to have decided the Dane is not for them. The 23-year-old enjoyed one decent Serie A season with Atalanta, and several Italian clubs were keen on giving him a fresh start in their colours.

AC Milan contacted United about a potential deal, as did Inter, but were put off by any loan deal that would include an obligation to buy. Juventus were also reported to have shown an interest. However, an injury to former United striker Romelu Lukaku has pushed Napoli into the market.

The reigning Serie A champions, who already have Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne on their books, are open to the loan with obligation to buy deal. As per Corriere dello Sport, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna and owner Aurelio de Laurentiis are close to a deal after meeting Hojlund's representatives. They report:

'The striker will arrive on an initial €5 million loan with an option to buy set at €40 million, which becomes mandatory if Napoli qualify for the Champions League, and a possible 10% interest on any future resale.'

Like Garnacho, the 10% bump on future transfers would, in small part, cover the club if any of their unwanted players prove a success in a new environment.

Napoli have secured Champions League football in three of the past four seasons, although they did finish 10th after a poor 2023/24 season.

In other, worrying United news, The Athletic has reported that Kobbie Mainoo has requested to leave the club on-loan, this season. The request was denied by the club, though.
