Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated Spain's Jaume Munar 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in the men's singles round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters in east China's Shanghai Municipality on Tuesday, becoming the oldest player to reach the quarterfinals in an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 tournament at 38 years and four months. The previous record was held by old rival Roger Federer who advanced to the last eight in Shanghai in 2019 at 38 years and two months.Competing against both humidity and injury, the 24-time Grand Slam winner broke his opponent in the fourth game, grabbing a 3-1 lead and then holding in the ninth to close out the first set.Munar rallied in the second set, breaking Djokovic in the 12th game to pull one back and force a decider. But the former World No. 1 regained the momentum in the third set, breaking Munar twice in the first and seventh games before holding in the eighth to seal the deal."Tough day at the office. Very challenging physically," Djokovic posted on X after the match. "Luckily, I have the greatest support in the world. 我爱上海 (I love Shanghai)."He will face Belgium's Zizou Bergs in the next round.
