India cricket team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate stressed on the need for Sai Sudharsan to believe in himself and backed him to play well in the IND vs WI 2nd Test. After a sub-par debut series in England, the number three batter managed to score just 7 runs in the 1st Test in Ahmedabad. Ahead of the next game, Doeschate stated that the team continues to back Sudharsan but at the same time fired a warning to the batter as well.

Time running out for Sudharsan?

Speaking at a press conference ahead of IND vs WI 2nd Test, Doeschate stated that it was no secret that there was stiff competition for a spot in the Indian Test side. Citing Karun Nair’s example, the assistant coach pointed out that there were a lot of players who were waiting in line for that number 3 spot that Sudharsan currently holds.

“I think he’s under no illusion, and you can’t hide away from the fact that you do fight for a spot in this environment. You saw Karun Nair get four Test matches in England. There are a lot of good players about to get on the heels of whoever has possession of that spot,” Doeschate said.

The Team India assistant coach further said that Sudharsan was perhaps dismissed in the 1st Test due to a tactical mistake. He affirmed that the team had belief in him to excel at the number three spot.
