Chelsea join Man Utd and Man City in transfer race for £26m PSG outcast

Chelsea have joined Manchester United and Manchester City in the transfer race for Paris-Saint Germain outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Donnarumma’s relationship with PSG is said to have ‘completely broken’ down after he was left out of the club’s latest matchday squad – essentially becoming an outcast at the club.

The Premier League is thought to be the ‘most likely destination’ for the PSG goalkeeper, who has been strongly linked with a move to United.

According to Oddschecker, City are currently ‘odds on’ to win the race for Donnarumma at 4/5 with the Italian star having previously been 50/1.

But City have already signed Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford this summer – and Chelsea are also keen on a move to sign Donnarumma.

That’s according to reports from France, with RMC Sport claiming that the Blues have made an enquiry about the 26-year-old, who is believed to be available for just £26m.

Donnarumma is widely regarded to be one of the best goalkeepers on the planet and has less than one year left on his current contract at PSG.

The goalkeeper helped PSG win the Champions League last season and has also landed four Ligue 1 titles since he joined the club from AC Milan.

Capped 74 times by Italy, Donnarumma won Euro 2020 with his country, beating England in the final as he was crowned Player of the Tournament.

Donnarumma has played 161 games for PSG to date was was named in the Champions League Team of the Season last term.

Many football pundits have argued that Chelsea need a new No.1 goalkeeper in order to go to the next level and challenge for the Premier League trophy.

Robert Sanchez currently operates as Chelsea’s No.1, with Filip Jorgensen the back-up and Gabriel Slonina the club’s third option with Mike Penders out on loan at Strasbourg for the 2025-26 campaign.

‘If Chelsea want to go and win the Premier League, they will need to have one of the best goalkeepers in the country – they don’t have that in Robert Sanchez,’ former Blues defender William Gallas told Prime Casino, who offer the latest online slots, this summer.

Roberto Di Matteo, though, is adamant that Sanchez is good enough to be Chelsea’s No.1 goalkeeper.

‘I said last year that the goalkeeper’s position wasn’t a priority,’ the ex-Chelsea manager told BetVictor, who offer the latest online casino games.

‘If you look around at the market, finding somebody better is not easy. Robert Sanchez is a good, solid keeper.

‘If you look over the whole [of last] season, Sanchez made some mistakes, which most goalkeepers do during the season. But he also made some really, really crucial saves.’

Donnarumma’s high salary demands could be a potential stumbling block for Chelsea – given the club usually opt to sign younger players on long contracts with lower wages.
